Maybe someone who's tried them or are currently running the Avid BB7's could shed some light into this matter?
I use Avid BB7, Speed Dial 7 and 160mm rotor housed with Avid full metal jacket cabling system.
This will be my last purchase for brakes as its super easy to maintain. Simply the toughest cable brakes available.
I inject WD40 into the cables every quarterly and the feel on the levers are softer and smoother than some expensive hydraulic systems in the market.
The Speed Dial 7 is a cheap-ass lever but it has an adjustable knob in front that allows you to adjust the leverage, so does the BB7 brakes. 2 red adjustable knobs on one brake allowing you to simply adjust both pads in and out in seconds!
Also has a tension spring adjuster on the brakes. Want a snappy and quick feeling, tighten the spring or want a smooth and soft hydraulic feel, loosen the spring.
Very easy to re-align the brakes to the rotor as well. Loosen 2 bolts, press on the brakes, look if the rotor is in the middle, once you're happy with it, just tighten the bolts and you're done!
So, its a good buy. Cheap and GUUUUD!! |

faye, its advisable to get the guide and a bike tour co. to sort u guys out its not that expensive but the benefits are real. the tour bike operator also include park entrance fees. that u need to pay to access the trails around Doi Suthep.
most importantly it comes with insurance, and logistics support incase someone crashes. the downhill at doi suthep is scary and i mean scary. i crash and a few other other folks crash, 1 even go off the cliff side and nearly died. and u need a really bad ass DH bike for the 'begineer' DH section. cos the locals are riding full on DH rigs with full armor and stuff and i kid u know 4hrs of madness downhill and i lost 3 rotor bolts and almost clean the rear disc brake pads that i just change a few mths b4. and disc rotor heat is a serious problem, most all cheapo shitmano disc got boiled and failed. V brakes user experience rubber burn in the inner tube cos the rim got so hot it melted the damn tube!! 1 guy change 6 tubes!
so get 1 or 2 guided tour and maybe the rest runs on GPS., the trail area is far from the mail town area. so with a guided bike tour, they have the transportation to take u from the hotel to the tour operator shop and than to the trails and back. a small price to pay for some creature comfort.
last year we go the cold season started late. so advice to go during end of dec. where the weather is at the sweeeeeeeeet spot. The chiangmai trails is like nothing i ever experience. 2" -3" try mud dust on a snakey switchback dh, where u any braking is useless. its fun and the weather remind me of my china xian epic ride in may. very nice cooling weather, and the best thing its not so dry as in china |

Thanks Andy for sharing your experience. Sounds it's a horrible downhill or ur guys too pro...
Diana will be our leader, i'm sure u know her. She had done off road ride at Chiang Mai for more than 3 years. In her planning, we gonna have a truck support there, just bring us to the trailhad and wait for us at the end. We'll carry our own foods, water, bike tools by ourself. i feel that this will be next commando training after the PCC ride. |

yeah diana is cool, she rode with me, lynten and a few folks when do the crazy 60km off-road at bintan that see me kissing a family of rocks and suffer a concussion!
yeah a truck support to transport to and fro is great. theres this small coffee hut at one of the stops down in Doi Suthep serves 100% pure arabica coffee! u got to try that!!! awesome lah dey. |
