Venue: Serendah
Hares: Bernard Emby, Stuart Allen
Time: 9.15 Briefing, 9.30am Start
============================
Bash Info
This Bash is set in the jungle around Serendah.
A good deal of the trail is on logging tracks, some of it is nicely covered, some of it is quite open - so lots of sunscreen and be sure to take plenty of fluids.
Make sure you also take plenty of mozzie repellent.
The long ride is DEFINITELY NOT for the faint hearted, although it is not particularly long, there is a long, very intense hill early on.
At the top of the hill there are awesome views and a great downhill section - make sure that your brakes are in excellent working order.
One again be prepared for a very tough push early on, you have been warned....
Bash Directions
Take the North South Highway and exit at Rawang.
Shortly after the toll at the traffic lights turn RIGHT towards Rawang.
At the bridge continue straight, through traffic lights.
At the traffic circle take 3 'o' clock exit - road goes up and bends to the left. At traffic lights go STRAIGHT, pass through Rawang.
Continue STRAIGHT on towards Serendah.
After Shell garage on right / police station on the left in Serendah, take traffic lights RIGHT and follow map / signs.
(If you pass the big white golf ball on right at Serendah Golf Club you have gone well past the exit)
OR

Go straight through Rawang.
Continue STRAIGHT to Serendah
After Shell garage on right / police station on the left in Serendah, take traffic lights RIGHT and follow map / signs.

Did you guys ride on the weekend at Serendah? Nice location with waterfalls and rivers adjacent to the on-on site but boy wasn't it hot! Bright blue skies here in Malaysia create a high degree of difficulty (as well as a high degree of celcius).
Some people got completely lost and ended up just south of Ulu Yam town on the wrong side of the mountain and about 4 klms from the nearest paper trail .... apparently got a bit of down hill fever and forgot to look for paper until they got to the bottom by which time it was too late.
Also another first for the bash was that the hare (Bernard) provided a "shuttle service" to a bunch of weary cyclists to get them to the top of the last hill on the long portion of the ride. I am not sure about a shuttle service provided for a XC event - maybe even a world first??!!
Anyway, for a last minute bash (remembering that the actual hares had pulled out due to some personal reasons just 2 weeks before) I thought it was well done. I am just glad I did the short - the long would have killed me (the big hill on the long was 505 metres elevation .... bigger than the Mother of All hills at Ulu Yam!!)
Looking forward now to next month. |

as responsible organisers, i feel they should look for them. if those guys are off paper i would take a longer time as someone mention days ? if more than 24 hours i guess gotta lodge a police report for missing person |

Chief,
it is part of the bash to go looking for your lost and wounded. But I tell you, those guys were lucky that they ended up in a place that (a) had phone reception and (b) we were able to navigate to. This is why it is so important to stay on the paper otherwise it makes it almost impossible for us to find people in thejungle or plantation and as we know, it all looks the same when you are lost! They should be buying lottery tickets!
As a rule for the new guys out there, if you discover you are off paper, retrace your tracks to the last piece of paper you find. If you are unable to continue, stay put and someone will eventually come and find you and organise something to get you home. This is the most important rule of hashing. |
