Whoa! What kinda funky neon yellow brakes are those on the Keewee?

Very nicely set-up!

The brakes on the Keewee are 2000 Magura Gustav DH brakes. They are a twin-pot, floating caliper, open hydraulic system brake. I have been using Magura brakes (rim then disc) since about 1995 - I am a bit of a Magura fan :smt007

They are very powerful brakes and Magura rate them for use on tandems! In 2001 they went from the trademark "fluoro yellow" colour to a more discrete silver. You may noticed they were on the Enduro to begin with - way overkill! But now they will go back on the Keewee.

My new Magura Louise brakes have just bedded in and are feeling really nice - one finger brake with adjustable "bite" so they feel like a less powerful version of the Gustavs (which is good).

*EDIT*

I have just noticed you have turned this into a thread! Should I post more pictures?

Woohoo~! Finally, a fellow Magura fan. I noticed split clamps on the funky-yellow levers...very nice...I wish they did the same for my '05 Louise FR's.

Nice bikes dude...please do enlighten us with the DH bike too! Did you made that carbon fiber rear-fender by yourself?

Hi yish - nice to know there are other magura fanatics out there.

The DH bike is one I made myself. I built Avanti D8's for a little over three years and this particular frame was one I put together for myself before I finished. Avanti D8's were made by Keewee (the company I worked for) and supplied exclusively to Avanti for the Australia/NZ market. Original prototype was done in 1999 - before that Keewee had been making 'four-bar' Dh bikes since about 94/95. All were made to order, custom geometry.

My frame was the first to use a 2.75" stroke shock instead of the standard 2.25" shock and puts out 9" of travel. It is a rising rate suspension design due to the linkage (pics below) so it is super supple through the first 50% of travel and then firms up near the end to prevent bottom out. I am running 67º head angle, 14.3" BB height and the top tube is around 21.5" (adjustable at the seat tower).

The carbon guard was standard on the Avanti D8 and yes - we did make them ourselves. The whole frame starts out as 4m lengths of straight tubing and then I cut, bent and machined them into what you see.

My first D8 in 2000 - all shiny!

D8 parts - all Cromoly steel alloy.

I have pictures of several other frames/bikes that I have made. One of my other bikes is a steel hardtail with horizontal drop-outs, phat tubing rear triangle and slack angles. It is fast downhill but slow for uphill and XC.

No - Trevor was my boss. I built almost all of the D8 frames.
