A warm welcome to the forum to Amin!
great review Amin!

I've seen a Proton full sus fully built up with XTR components at boonfoo's shop few years back..
looked pretty cool and weighs ok too.

i'm sure the bobbing can be reduced greatly by upgrading to the newer anti bop shocks like the fox float RP3 or RP23 or any of the manitous with SPV.
Same story with the front.

Any idea what shock length (eye-to-eye) the bike uses? But I guess one of these shocks may cost more than the complete bike..:)

The suspension is actually a tried and proven single pivot system found on the santa cruz superlight, orange bikes etc.. however, i dunno if the pivot location is perfected to bring out the best of the single pivot suspension.

The Trek Y frames used the Unified rear triangle (URT) suspension which was a total failure. only very very low end bikes use this URT system nowadays..

Hello Chief...

Thanks for the welcome. Dunno why I didn't find this site earlier and am I glad to be here :-D

Yup, you're right on the account of the Trek Y-Bike. There is a huge difference in the way the drivetrain is mounted onto the rear triangle and how the suspension works on both the Trek and Proton. My mistake for putting the two together. Thanks for pointing it out.

With regards to your question on the eye-to-eye lenght...I don't have an answer on this but will find out.

Pivot location play a big part in the way the suspension behave. Will have to dust off my memory banks to figure this one out but generally for cantilever beam single pivot design like the T-Bolt, a pivot location closer to the centre of the crank (ie. on the BB) would eliminate suspension bob altogether but will be unresponsive to bumps and vice versa.

So the T-Bolt like many other single pivot design has a compromised location and for its intended purpose (XC) its just too inefficient.

very2-soft-tail bike..

i've ridden this once on bumpy surface, and surprisingly the seatpost hit the rear shock!! (lowered the seatpost, not tall enough to use it at full lenght..heheheh)

I want to upgrade my current rear DNM-A0R air-shock. Any advice what would help soup up my trusty steed?

(Affordably of course, without causing my wallet to disintegrate hehe)

second hand shocks are hard to come by..
keep your eyes open on the buySell website..
grab a good rockshox or fox float (that's a right size)!!

actually i have a Fox float AVA lying around in my spare parts bin.. dunno what lenght though.. must go measure.

go on Chief, measure it..if it's 7.5"/2.0", I'm interested(with the right price) :-)
