|

Hi,
I'm new in KL and am interested in giving mountain biking a try. Would anyone have advice to share over where I could start out, what sort of bike and gear to get, where to get it, how much I am looking at and any other general tips?
Thanks :-) |

but one thing... what does getting started on mountainbike got to do with 'Girls only'?
sorry, i ain't trying to be rude or bomb you.. just curious.. hehehe, i was a bit exicited when there's some girls only topic... sort of hoping to read some girlish talk, muahahaha
btw, kayleigh you can always get one of us to bring you to a bike shop and help you choose the bike you desire... just give us a 'PM' |

| kayleigh, you should join the faks for a ride at FRIM and i am sure you will be hooked to mtb after that. Dont ride at kiara the first time or not we may never see you in the forum or mountain biking again. |

Hi,
Thanks for all the help!
*lol... yes I put the topic up in Girls Only because I didn't think guys would have the patience with or be able to fully comprehend female limitations.
I've only tried biking once and it was up Kiara. Only made it up to the intersection though but that was good considering I haven't been on a bike since I was in elementary school. Walked off track there before though and that looks pretty scary for a biker.
Would it be more prudent to rent a bike and have a go for a few months before investing heavily in the sport?
Thanks! |

rent a bike is not command in Malaysia. You got friend that got extra bike? you can borrow for them, and get the feel first.
For me, no matter newbie or experience rider, kiara also suitable for you to ride there. you can choose to be technical and choose to be not. Various of trail there. No worries. If you need help, Fakawian[s] are ready to help u. |

| well, kayleigh... if you are really interested, i got an extra bike which I borrow from Boon Foo (a local bike shop owner), you can take it and use, of course with the permission from Boon Foo first... but you got to promise that you will buy a bike from him, LOL!!! :) |

Trust me, these guys here WILL find the patience... :-D Right u guys??
Go with a 2nd hand bike for starters, else borrow one from a friend if you can. Get a feel for it, not just whether you like it offroad or not, but also for the fit of the bike, whether its too small, too big, too stretched out, etc.. Then you'll have a better idea what kind of a bike will suit you. As for going offroad, as many here have mentioned (and volunteered I might add), FRIM might be a better choice to start as compared to Kiara.
Happy biking! |

hi kayleigh,
welcome to the forum!
you should try renting a good bike to try out the trails first..
Nathan's shop in Melawati rents out good bikes at very reasonable prices...
heres the link to his shop location:
