Malaysian Nature Society: Gazette Bukit Kiara As Permanent Forest Reserve Featured
NGOs and resident groups are calling for the National Landscape Department to issue a stop-work order to the contractors at Bukit Kiara to prevent further tree-felling and forest clearance activities. This comes after the department set up 3.5 metre-high fencing to demarcate the park and increase security for park visitors.
In the following interview, Henry Goh, chairman of the Malaysian Nature Society Selangor Branch, explains why residents and NGOs are opposing the fencing and development work at Bukit Kiara, the status of land ownership and the challenges of gazetting Bukit Kiara as a permanent forest reserve.
