DVteq Fakawi

FInal race of the season, Team DVteq Fakawi went to Bandung Indonesia for this year's APDHC. With the likes of Brandon Fairclough, Dan Atherton & Marc Beaumont, Neko Mullaly and Mitch Ropelato accepting the invitations this year, the Organisers hv put up a great event!

Enjoy!

Apologies for lack of usually riding segments. It was pissing it!!!

Just last weekend, Team DVteq Fakawi left for Chiang Mai, Thailand for the Chiang Mai Downhill Challenge at Mae-On, Chiang mai. Adam had to miss the race because we flew off just as he touched down from his long flight from Lebanon. Robby, Allen and Chiefy from FakawiBikes went along for the race with Roslee Blur and Wan Blitz in tow. Our team manager Rizal however, could not tear himself from his office desk.. No worries, we made sure his presence was there - check the race video to see why!

Apologies for the lateness of this communiqué, I wasn't in a great state of mind over the past few weeks. I have a few things on my mind that I would like to share with you guys, things that sicken me, the sad state of what Malaysian cycling is in.

Ok now that national championships are over, let's clear a few things up before everyone starts talking. Sure if you would have talked to me a week ago things would have been different but being here at the race and seeing from a different perspective helped a lot.

First of all I think its great that national champs were held, its good for everyone, uci points available, not needed to go all the way for Asian Continental Championships to get uci points. Its good for everyone. Sure there were some issues with the race not being advertised, race organisers aren't that experienced so can't blame them. The race was actually confirmed and known about 2 months ago but the news was spread through the government sports councils. Reason I didn't know about along with many others is because we aren't involved with sports councils, yes not an ideal situation but its how it is.

So this was going to be my first cross country race ever. Never saw the fun in riding cross country because I never really had a proper cross country bike and I would be racing the Banshee Paradox, a 29er hardtail during the race. I even bought myself some lycra to fit in with the scene, haha! I was supposed to do 5 laps of the carnival loop that took about 10 minutes each to complete.

DVteq Fakawi together with FTW racing went to do a few runs the team's new practice track. We only managed 3 runs before the rain came. Cant wait for the next session!

This was a race that I had my eyes on for a while, first time I rode at Cikole was 2007 and its taken me 5 years to finally attend a race there. Its not the purest form of dh racing per say, there is a nice long uphill pedal near the bottom of the track. Its a great fun track to ride one but you are gonna bust a lung when it comes time to race. If you want to test your fitness, go to Indonesia, if you do well there, you will do well on any pedaly track in the world. Partially the reason why I keep going back to Indonesia, (besides the amazing food, people, friend, racing, tracks etc etc. )
